Dataset - LIDAR

In order to built the Landscapecutter I used LIDAR (Light Detection And Ranging), sourced from the Geomatics Group, a small specialists business unit within the UK environment agency.

“Aerial LIDAR uses a laser to measure the distance between the survey aircraft and the ground surface, including buildings and other assets (above ground pipelines, highways, street furniture, power lines, railway tracks), as well as vegetation. Geomatics Group owns two state-of-the-art Optech LIDAR systems, which allow very high resolution data to be collected at a range of flying heights.”

After considerable research into Digital Elevation Data (DEM), I eventually contacted the Geomatics Group as they could supply raw LIDAR data (minus vegetation) at extremely high (1-meter) resolution in usable image based format.
